How to play online blackjack

To get started with playing online blackjack, you will need to create an account with an online casino. However, this online casino must have ticked off some requirements before it becomes eligible for selection. The first is that the online casino must be officially licensed by a recognized gaming body. This will ensure that you are playing at a legal online casino. Also, the online casino must have responsive customer support in the case of technical issues and also a transparent payment processing system.

The game starts with the dealer dealing two face-down cards to the players while the dealer also gets two cards which can be face up or face down depending on the variants you are playing. Afterwhich each player takes turns to play. For each turn, the player must make specific moves to win. If the player feels he needs more cards to hit 21, he simply 'HIT'. The player should 'STAND' if he feels his hand is high enough to beat the dealer.

In a case whereby the player is confident about his hand, he can decide to 'DOUBLE DOWN' on his bet. This is a way to increase his win for the round. However, if he loses that round he will lose all the bet. Also, the player can decide to 'SPLIT', if he has two similar cards. This split will result in two hands and will be treated separately and the player is required to bet on these hands separately. However, some of these actions might not be allowed in some variants.

Variants and side bets

Online blackjack has several variants that come with varying rules. A popular variant is the Double Exposure Blackjack. This variant allows the player to see the first two cards of the dealer. With this, the player can make a better decision when playing. However, in the case of a tie, the dealer wins. Also, blackjack pays even. Another variant is the Blackjack switch. This variant allows players to manage two hands at once and also allows switching cards. Other online blackjack variants include:

  • Super Fun 21
  • Double Attack Blackjack
  • 21st-Century Blackjack

Winning at online blackjack requires basic strategy although it is a game of chance. If you are a beginner, try to stop hitting when you have a hand that is 19 or more. You should only split when you have a pair of 8s. Generally, dealers are meant to stand when they have a hand that is 17 or more. A pair of 8s will give 16 which is lesser than the number dealer has to stand also, 16 has a higher chance of busting.
